I am passionate about:
My family and I started mentoring an African-American student in kindergarten. He is now a senior in high school and has lived with us all during high school. He will be the first person in his family to graduate from high school. We are working to get him a scholarship to attend college next year. I am passionate about replicating this across America and the world.
Professional experience:
I earned a BBA from the University of North Georgia, and then earned an MBA from Georgia Tech, focusing on marketing and management. I then went to Baylor University Law School on an academic scholarship. During law school, I was a summer associate with the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corp in Germany. Upon graduation, I practiced law at a law firm in Houston. While working at the law firm, I was a founder of the award-winning Aspiring Youth After-School Programs for at-risk youth as a volunteer project of the Houston Young Lawyers, Texas Young Lawyers and American Bar Young Lawyers Associations. As Chairman, I organized and implemented citywide, statewide and nationwide programs that have reached more than 13,500 at-risk youth in more than 30 cities. To get training in non-profit management, I earned a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government in 1997. I then founded the Aspiring Youth Foundation that grew to over 100 employees and has raised more than $3 million to help at-risk youth. I served as President and General Counsel until 2005 and currently am the Chairman as a volunteer. In 2005, I joined Greenberg Traurig law firm as Business Director and worked there until 2013, when I became the first Executive Director of SpringSpirit, a Houston non-profit working with under-served youth and families. I have also been an Adjunct Professor at Houston Baptist University teaching public relations. In 2015, I returned to the legal field as the Executive Director of Beck Redden law firm. In 2017, I joined Chamberlain Hrdlicka law firm as the Chief Operating Officer.
